Theres no denying that Paris is a beautiful city well deserving of its reputation and record number of tourists it attracts but if theres one thing that is sure to ruin a mini-break in Paris it is the threat of a strike or a road-blockage grinding the city to a halt and making it near impossible to get around.

France has great customs and that people are so readily willing to take a stand for their civil liberties and fight for what they believe in is great and the frequency of the strikes and the power the strikers have in halting the city from operating normally can be commended. Commended that is if you are not caught up in the middle of it all because then it gets a little bit hard to feel some empathy with the strikers plight.
However, public opinion does seem to be turning the tide a bit and in November 2007, we managed to witness a strike and protest against the strikers as thousands of people marched in Paris . Given that reports said there were earlier traffic jams stretching back 150 miles it was easy to see why commuters had finally had enough and the wave of enthusiasm and the feeling of the little man standing up for himself was very easy to get caught up in.
Hopefully the people of France will be able to develop new ways to show their displeasure to the politicians without inconveniencing everyone else but that one day of kicking back managed to make up for a lot of the anger that had been caused by the jams. |
