Paris is incomparable - a beautiful city of light, romance, art and grandeur. Little wonder that it's one of the most visited cities in the world.
Paris sightseeing is a series of almost endless pleasures. The big sights are legion, but include the Eiffel Tower, the Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Arc de Triomph, the Bastille, the Catacombs and many more. The most famous sites can get extremely busy in peak seasons, and it's well worth buying a ticket in advance that allows you to skip the queue. Don't feel bad - you are in France, after all!
Coach tours and walking tours are available of varying routes and length. Some cover classic Paris, which include many of the city's most famous sites. Others cover specific areas, like the Left Bank and Montmatre, the famous artists' village, or a specific topic, like the Parisian Ghost Walk Tour. You can also tour the city in a minivan - or even in a Citroen 2V, a classic French mode of transport.
There are a range of other Seine cruises on offer too - they are one of the traditional ways to see the city. Evening cruises are excellent as you see the best of Paris' illuminations - they work as standalone trips, or can be combined with dinner and a show at a Parisian nightspot. Day cruises are also very popular, and an easy way to get an overview of the city.
There are also many day trips available outside the city. The most enduringly popular are trips to Versailles, the opulent palace where the French royals lived with every conceivable luxury of the age at their fingertips. Or, you can visit EuroDisney, have a tasting trip to one of France's premier wine regions, including Champagne.
Some trips outside the city may be of particular interest to the families of war veterans. From Paris, it is easy to arrange a trip to many of the key battlefields of the First and Second World Wars, both in France and Belgium. Normandy, the Somme and others are all sombre reminders of what others have sacrificed so we can enjoy the freedom we take for granted.
Whether you're interested in history, in shopping, in food, in wine, in art, in romance, or just want to have a good time, as a couple or as a family, you'll love Paris. This is a timeless city that you'll want to return to again and again.
